administration of medicine in schools
St Augustine's School will administer medicine which has been prescribed by a doctor, to avoid children missing too much time from school. However, we are not able to do this unless the following procedure has been followed:
- A form has been completed which gives permission for us to administer the medicine, clearly stating the dosage and time. You can download and print the form by clicking here, or you can obtain a copy from the Infants or Junior Department.
- The medicine should be brought to the school by the parent, not the child, and delivered personally to the office staff.
- Medicines must be clearly labelled with the contents, owner’s name and dosage and be stored in the office. The child should visit the office at the correct time to receive the medication as prescribed.
- School Staff cannot accept responsibility for the timing of the administration of the medicine.
- Under no circumstances should medicines be kept in cloakrooms or classrooms. This will eliminate the risk, however remote, of the wrong child receiving the medication.
Please note that in line with guidance, if your child has been physically sick or suffered from diarrhoea, they must not return to school for at least 24 hours following the last episode.
